Zimbabwe Team

The Zimbabwe Cricket team is a team that has seldom shone in the world cricket with their performances. The team having less talent; can only challenge some teams in the World Cup. Their World Cup record is not much good. They have never gone far from first round. The only prospects of the team are their keeper Charles Coventry (who has the record of highest number of runs scored by an individual in one-day cricket), their captain Prosper Utseya, who can bat as well as bowl and some other players. Even though the team has such good perspectives in batting, they have very weak bowling attack that is not able to defend even big scores. Even though, Zimbabwe batting has shined in recent times, their bowling has failed to equal while defending the big scores. The responsible factor for such a bad condition of Zimbabwe cricket team is the ongoing politics in the country that forced the good players to rebel from the cricket team. But, one cannot say anything about cricket. As the saying goes, “Cricket is by chance”. It is surely possible that Zimbabwe Cricket can bounce back from their current form in 2011 World Cup and can throw challenges to big teams just as did by India in 1983 and Sri Lanka in 1996.

West Indies Team

The West India Cricket Team, popualry referred to as The Windies, is the national cricket team of the English-speaking Caribbean nations. The West Indian side dominated cricket scene throughout the 1970's and 1980's, but today it's struggling to regain its lost glory. The team won the first two editions of the ICC World Cup in 1975 and 1979, and lost to India in the 1983 World Cup final in a low scoring match. The team has produced several world-renowned cricketers in its 78 years of international cricket. The list of the most popular West Indian cricketers include the names of Garry Sobers, Rohan Kanhai, Clive Lloyd, Joel Garner, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Malcolm Marshall, Viv Richards, Carl Hooper, Courtney Walsh, and Brian Lara. Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard is a key point for the team who can score quickly and can turn match on his own. Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul are two other batsmen who can score easy runs. Dwayne Bravo is a very good all rounder who can score runs as well as can take wickets. West Indies is standing at 8th place in the ICC rankings for the One-Day Internationals. Sometime back, they faced the issue of contracts and due to that reason, they had to send their second string team to play against Bangladesh and West Indies lost Test as well as One Day series. This loss has cost too much to the West Indies cricket team and except Chris Gayle, nobody has shown consistency after return. Even though team can provide the challenge but they are not favorites to win World Cup 2011. Chris Gayle, one of the most destructive batsmen in limited-overs cricket, will be entering his third World Cup determined to restore the status of the West Indies in the ODI game Darren Bravo is preparing for his first World Cup, and comes in with great expectations as a batsman of the future. He has been groomed for international cricket, as the younger cousin of former skipper Lara and younger half-brother of established allrounder Dwayne Bravo. The 31-year-old Gayle, the former captain and heartbeat of the team as left-handed power-hitter at the top of the order, has blasted 165 sixes (the fifth most in all ODIs) in 221 matches and scored 19 centuries. The solid frame of the middle order is built on the two long-serving Guyanese - Chanderpaul and Sarwan - and the rising star of Caribbean cricket, Darren Bravo. Pollard, a sought-after sensation in domestic Twenty20 leagues around the world, has yet to make an international impact in the 50-over version but opponents will be wary of the influence of his big-hitting. The West Indies' bowling does not present the same confidence as the batting. Kemar Roach's genuine pace and hostility has been a handful for batsmen in his two years of international cricket but the 22-year-old, along with pace colleagues Ravi Rampaul and Andre Russell, will be severely tested on what are likely to be batting-friendly surfaces. So, too, the medium-pace offerings of Sammy, Dwayne Bravo and Pollard and the left-arm spin of Sulieman Benn and Nikita Miller.

England Team

The English cricket team is one of the oldest and best cricket teams in the world. England is regarded as the inventor of the sport of cricket and is the founding nation of both versions of the game - Test cricket as well as One-day international. England was one of the first nations to play in the first Test match against Australia in Melbourne in 1877, and also the first one-day international against Australia in 1971, this too at Melbourne. The England Cricket Team represents England and Wales, operating under the auspices of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The England cricket team is one of the most challenging and dominant cricket teams in the world, at present ranking fourth in the ICC Test cricket ratings.

The team has done reasonably well in all cricket world cups, and reached to finals on three occassions in 1979, 1989 and 1992 but missed the cup by little margins. The England cricket team has played some of the world's most outstanding players like Jim Laker, Mike Denness, Tony Greig, David Gower, Ian Botham, Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, Graeme Hick, Allan Lamb, Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussian and Andrew Flintoff . The current English team plays some of the leading cricketers of the world, including the captain Andrew Strauss ,Paul Collingwood, Kevin Pietersen,Graeme Swann and Will it be the dominant limited-overs side that clinched last year's World Twenty20 title in the Caribbean.

Spinner Graeme Swann has a back problem, paceman Ajmal Shahzad a hamstring injury and allrounder Tim Bresnan a calf injury that could keep him out until the second group match against India. With possible replacement Chris Tremlett carrying a side injury, Chris Woakes could be drafted in England Cricket team is a team that has played many semi-final matches of a World Cup but never managed to go up to finals and could win World Cup. This team is hungry to win the World Cup and they are looking set for their first World Cup win in 2011 even though not going to the tournament as favorites. The England skipper Andrew Strauss has performed well throughout his career and has always scored runs. Kevin Pietersen looks set in the middle order and can score runs quickly. The bowling department is headed by James Anderson who is supported by Stuart Broad. Spinner Graeme Swann is in a form of his life time and he has a habit to take a wicket in his first over. The inconsistency of several required players on the big game costs the games to England and they lose the plot in semi-finals and finals. But, they are in no mood to let it go this time and they will surely be definite to win 2011 cricket World Cup. With Pietersen also on hand, England should look strong on the batting front, even with Eoin Morgan ruled out after fracturing his middle finger in the fourth ODI against Australia. He was replaced by Ravi Bopara.

New Zealand Team

The New Zealand Cricket Team, popularly referred to as the Black Caps, is one of the best cricketing teams in the world today. One of the oldest cricket playing nations The New Zealand Cricket Team has produced several legendary cricketers, including John R. Reid, Geoff Howarth, Ian Smith, Sir Richard Hadlee, Martin Crowe, Danny Morrison and Chris Cairns. Stephen Fleming The New Zealand cricket team has taken part in all cricket World Cups since 1975. They reached up to semi-finals on four occasions in 1975, 1979, 1992 and 1999 cricket World Cups, but lost to opponents on all occasions. current New Zealand cricket team has several outstanding cricketers, including the captain Daniel Vettori,Brendon McCullum,Scott Styris and Ross Taylor.

The enigma that is New Zealand cricket was highlighted when captain Daniel Vettori said the batting responsibility lay with the top order and match-winner Brendon McCullum was promptly moved down.

Newcomer Luke Woodcock joins Vettori and Nathan McCullum as the third spinner to take advantage of the sub-continent wickets and at the expense of a specialist back-up wicketkeeper.

With Brendon McCullum playing down the order it ensured a place for batsman Jamie How who also has the responsibility of being the second gloveman.

Whether he is required will depend on the performances of the apparent first choice top order of Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder, Ross Taylor Scott Styris and possibly Brendon McCullum.

Tim Southee and Hamish Bennett are the favoured new-ball pair, backed by spinners Vettori and Nathan McCullum and with experienced medium pacers Styris and Jacob Oram leaving the veteran Kyle Mills fighting for a place.

Wright, who guided India to the 2003 final where they were beaten by Australia, favours picking the best XI from the squad of 15 a luxury he was denied against Pakistan where the independent selectors produced sides based on a rotation system.

Sri Lanka Team

The Sri Lankan Cricket Team is rated among strongest and most challenging sides in the world. Though a relatively new entrant to international cricket, Sri Lanka today has the potential to upset any international side. They surprised the cricketing world in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996, when they defeated the in the final Sri Lanka has produced several famous cricketers such as Arjuna Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan. In 2003 Sri Lanka entered into semis and in 2007 entered into finals. The 38-year-old spinner, already the most prolific wickettaker in test and limited-overs international cricket, plans to retire after the World Cup, which is being co-hosted by Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India and being staged in Asia for the first time since Sri Lanka's upset victory 15 years ago. Muralitharan could end up being the leading wicket taker in World Cups, too. Going into his fifth tournament, he already has 53 wickets in 31 World Cup matches - which puts him third on the list - and needs 19 to surpass Australia's Glenn McGrath in No. 1 spot. With Muralitharan still capable of extracting increadible spin, and with a strong batting lineup to back him, it's little wonder most locals consider this Sri Lanka's best chance to win the World Cup for the second time. Sangakkara's squad includes seven specialist batsmen with the likes of former captain Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Thilan Samaraweera.Muralitharan leads the spin bowlers, supported by Ajantha Mendis and Rangana Herath, who will be playing his first World Cup despite representing Sri Lanka for 12 years. Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara and Dilhara Fernando are specialist seamers supported by allrounders Anjelo Mathews and Thisara Perera. Sri Lanka's senior batsmen, Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Dilshan have combined for more than 800 one-day international caps. Among the bowlers, Muralitharan alone has more than 340 caps with Fernando having played 140 ODIs.

South Africa Team

The South African Cricket Team is one of the top ranking teams in the world, rated at par with Australia and India.

The feat of the group of virtual unknowns led by Kepler Wessels in Australia and New Zealand in 1992 was remarkable because South Africa had just emerged from 21 years of apartheid-induced isolation from international cricket.

although South Africa quickly rose to become one of the most feared one-day outfits, they have consistently fallen short at the World Cup.

Since South Africa reached the 1992 World Cup semi-finals, the country’s public have expected more from them than they have been able to deliver in the global showpiece.

Souh Africa is one of the strongest contenders to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The Proteas became the third Test playing nation in the world, when they played its first Test match way back in 1889 against England. South Afirca produced several world-famous cricketers, such as Hansie Cronje, Allan Donald, Gary Kirsten, Kepler Wessels, Jhonty Rhodes and Shaun Pollock.

South Africa surprised the cricketing world in their first ever world cup appearance in 1992,

In 1996 a side led by the late Hansie Cronje and coached by the innovative Bob Woolmer established themselves as favourites in India and Pakistan, sweeping through the group stage only to be beaten in the quarter-finals by a West Indian team that had struggled to qualify.

when they reached up to the semi-finals. In the ICC World Cup 1999, South Africa again reached to the semi-final but lost to Australia, as a result of tie.

Haveing won an ICC event only once - the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998 - Graeme Smith's men will be hoping to improve on its record when it takes on West Indies in its opening game.

The team is not short of talent with the likes of AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla,Graeme Smith and Mone Morkel the challenge to lift South Africa to world glory. South Africa begins its campaign against West Indies at New Delhi on 24 Feb 2011 and the team will hope for the first world cup title.

The only world-class all-rounder in the 2011 team is Kallis, playing in his fifth World Cup, although a case could be made for AB de Villiers, who will keep wicket as well as being a key batsman, also being described as an all-rounder.

That role has been passed to JP Duminy, but the overall standard of South African fielding is no longer exceptional. In a recent home series, India were at least the equal of their hosts.

If South Africa are to be successful in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, they will need solid performances from their specialists.

Their top five batsmen, likely to be Smith, Hashim Amla, Kallis, De Villiers and Duminy, have the pedigree to post the big scores that are likely to be necessary in the sub-continent.

Similarly, the specialist bowlers spearheaded by fast men Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, together with the much-improved left-arm seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe and experienced off-spinner Johan Botha, will need to be on top of their game.

Pakistan Team

The Pakistan Cricket Team is rated , most challenging and unpredictable teams in the cricket world, Pakistan went on to win the 1992 Cricket World Cup, fighting back from a position where other teams lose hope. Currently, Pakistan team is facing problems with internal team clashes because of which they have lacked the consistency in winning matches. In order to lift the World Cup, they have to sort out these issues as soon as possible; otherwise, team might not reach even to semifinals. India is placed in Group B of the ICC World Cup 2011, along with South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands. India begins its campaign against Banglash at Dhaka and the team will rely on the successful captaincy of MS Dhoni for a Second Title. Under the cool captaincy of MS Dhoni, who led the side to victory in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, the number-one ranked Test team in the world and expected to deliver India its first World Cup title since 1983 A batting lineup containing Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni would command respect from any opposition. Add the dependable Gautam Gambhir, the in-form Yusuf Pathan and Virat Kohli to the mix, and it's an even more potent batting order while bowlers Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan will be relied upon for wickets. Sehwag (shoulder), Gambhir (hand) and Tendulkar (hamstring) missed all or part of the series in South Africa because of injuries, but are all fit now and considered certainties to take their places at the World Cup.

Zaheer Khan,Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel and Shantakumaran Sreesanth - a late replacement for injured Praveen Kumar - are the other seam options for India, while off-spinners Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin are slow-bowling options along with leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.

The Australian Cricket Team has performed exceptionally well in most of the world cup matches and their track record is simply superb. They were runners-up in 1975 and 1996 world cups, and were winners of ICC Cricket World Cup in 1987, 1999 , 2003 and 2007. It holds a tournament record 29 consecutive World Cup matches without a loss, a streak dating back to 23 May 1999, where it lost to Pakistan during the group stage of the event. Australia will be hoping to better its own achievement by winning the 2011 trophy Australia is placed in Group A of the ICC World Cup 2011, along with Pakistan ,New Zealand ,Sri Lanka ,Zimbabwe,Kenya , and Canada . Australia begins its campaign against Zimbabwe at Ahmadabad and the team will rely on the successful captaincy of Ricky Ponting for a fifth title. Ponting's return was tempered, however, by news on the eve of Australia's departure for India that both Mike Hussey and Nathan Hauritz had been ruled out with injuries. Veteran middle-order batsman Hussey and first-choice spinner Hauritz failed to overcome hamstring and shoulder injuries, leaving Australian selectors with no choice but to make replacements. The loss of 35-year-old Hussey is a big blow, considering he was one of only two batsmen in form during the Ashes series loss to England and averages almost 52 in 151 ODIs, regularly forced into the role of salvaging an innings. Callum Ferguson and spin bowler Jason Krejza were drafted into the 15-man squad as replacements. Ferguson, 26, averages 44 in his 28 ODIs, while right-arm spinner Krejza took 12 wickets on his test debut in India in 2008 but only played one more test and only made his ODI debut for Australia last Sunday, taking 2-53 in Australia's win over England at Perth. "Callum has an excellent record in one-day international cricket and played well in the limited-overs match against England in Sydney recently. We think he'll play well in subcontinental conditions," Hilditch said. "Jason toured India with the Australian test team in 2008 and understands those conditions. We're certain he'll be a key member of our squad."
