This was the fifth Cup event (called Benson & Hedges World Cup) and was held from 22 February to 25 March 1992 in Australia and New Zealand.

This was the first time day/night matches was used and the first tournament to use white cricket balls and colored team uniforms.

The different stadiums in Australia and New Zealand were venues for the 39 matches played by 9 teams and it was for the first time that South Africa joined the tournament.

The final was played between Pakistan and England in Melbourne, Australia. Pakistan made 249 runs in 50 overs for 6 Wickets, compar4ed to England's total of 227 runs in 49.2 all out. Pakistan won by 22 Runs
